Friday Flower Feature - Succulents

This week’s Friday Flower Feature is the popular succulent! These trendy, decorative plants are a relatively low maintenance to your home and can be grown both indoors and outdoors. Not all succulents are suited for growing indoors, those that prefer low lighting will have more success growing indoors. Your indoor succulents should be placed near the brightest area of your home, near a window that gets light all day is a great option.
Brightly coloured succulents require direct sunlight and flourish growing outdoors. Outdoor succulents require approximately six hours of bright, indirect sunlight each day.
Succulents require a surprising amount of water to thrive. The best way to care for them is to soak the roots with water then allow them to dry out for a few days, then repeat the process.
Additional care instructions include:
- Allowing your succulent enough air flow, avoid glass containers for your indoor plant as they restrict breathability
- During the cooler months of the year, indoor succulents experience a dormant period where they do not need as much water.
- For outdoor succulents, too much water is worse than too little - it is best to keep outdoor plants in a dry area to help reduce rot. Another way to preserve them is covering them from rain under a roof
- Succulents need very little fertilizer, one dose per month with water is sufficient
Succulents offer endless planting possibilities with their different colours, textures, and habits. With a wide variety in bloom times your succulent garden will always have colour.
