Friday Flower Feature - Nemesia

This week’s Friday Flower Feature is the colourful nemesia, a small bedding plant that has multiple uses in the garden! Use your nemesia as edging plants, ground covers, in mixed borders, woodland plantings, and as containers or hanging basket plants. Nemesia is extremely versatile and comes in a wide range of flower colours.
When planting your nemesia, choose a planting area where the soil is rich in organic matter and moist but well-drained. This annual plant favours full sun but bloom longer in warmer temperatures if they get some afternoon shade. Older seedlings tend to not transplant well, when buying your plants choose those with lots of buds but only a few open flowers to make the transplanting process easier. Disturb the roots as little as possible and water deeply after transplanting. Once established in the garden, nemesia needs little care except watering to keep the soil moist. If your plants stop blooming, cut them back by one-third to bring them back into bloom. If growing your nemesia in a pot or hanging basket, choose one with sufficient drainage and place it in a less windy spot so that it does not dry out quickly.
Nemesia is relatively easy to care for and favours a slightly acidic to neutral soil. It should receive 6-7 hours of sun daily. Water your plant regularly and deeply as it likes a moist soil. Fertilize your nemesia with slow-release fertilizer twice a month when the plant is in active growth.
