Friday Flower Feature - Cape Daisy

This week’s Friday Flower Feature is the beautiful Cape Daisy - almost unheard of until 25 years ago but are now a popular summer bedding plant. Also called the African Daisy, this plant is native to South Africa and can tolerate full sun and dry climates.
Like many other daisy-type flowers, cape daisies require full sun for the flowers to fully open, this makes them ideal for planting in borders or flower beds. They are also suited for planting in containers and hanging baskets.
This beautiful annual should be planted in well composed soil and require minimal watering; unless there is rainfall, water your cape daisies once a week. To encourage flowering, fertilize regularly and foliar feed every second week to ensure your plant flowers for many months. Weed frequently early in the planting season and apply mulch to keep the weeds down.
The cape daisy is a great attractor for bees, so if you are looking to attract wildlife this flower is a great choice. Regular dead heading should be done to promote flowering and to make sure your plant looks their best for the longest amount of time possible.
Cape daisies are a relatively low maintenance plant, and with proper care and planting your cape daisies should flower from early summer until the first frost. Come stop by our greenhouse to see our selection of Cape Daisies!
