Friday Flower Feature - Calibrachoa

This week’s Friday Flower Feature is the calibrachoa, the one pictured is the beautiful Aloha Kona White variety. Commonly called million bells or trailing petunia, the calibrachoa is a perennial that produces lots of foliage along trailing stems and flowers in all different shades. The calibrachoa is known as a rich bloomer, with flowers blooming from spring to frost. Its trailing habit makes it perfect for use in hanging baskets, containers or as a small area ground cover.
Growing calibrachoa is easy, they prefer moist but well drained soil with a low pH level. Be sure to plant them in full sun, they can tolerate light shade and some drought. Once correctly planted, calibrachoa require minimal care. Soil should be kept fairly moist but not soggy, as they prefer full sun areas and may succumb to the heat and dryness of full sun. If planting in a container, they require more watering.
Additional care includes periodic fertilizer applications in the garden, with additional fertilization required when planted in a container or hanging basket. Deadheading is not required as they are considered to be self cleaning. You can pinch them back regularly to encourage a more compact growth habit.
Calibrachoa flowers from spring all the way through until fall and can be used in combination with other plants. Stop by our greenhouse to see our selection of Calibrachoa!
